Visa Information for Nepal Travel
Planning a journey to Nepal is simple and convenient for most international travelers. Visitors entering Nepal must obtain an appropriate visa according to the purpose and duration of their stay. Most tourists can obtain a Tourist Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and designated entry points.
Visa regulations, fees, and requirements may change according to the policies of the Government of Nepal. Travelers are advised to check the latest immigration updates before departure.
Tourist Visa
Most foreign visitors traveling to Nepal for holidays, trekking, tours, and adventure activities are eligible to obtain a Tourist Visa on Arrival at the airport or authorized border entry points.
However, citizens of certain countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Eswatini (Swaziland), Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine, are required to obtain a visa before arrival and are not eligible for an on-arrival visa.
Tourist visas can be issued and extended according to Nepal’s immigration regulations. The total stay under a tourist visa cannot exceed 150 days within a calendar year (January to December).
Diplomatic Visa
Diplomatic visas are issued to foreign nationals holding diplomatic passports who visit Nepal for official diplomatic missions.
The spouse and children of diplomatic visa holders may also be eligible for diplomatic visas. These visas remain valid according to the duration of the diplomatic assignment in Nepal.

Official visas are issued to individuals traveling to Nepal for official purposes.

A Study Visa is required for individuals coming to Nepal for educational purposes, teaching, academic research, or other approved study-related activities at recognized educational institutions.
The visa may be issued and extended according to the approved duration of study or research, subject to Nepal’s immigration rules.
Business Visa
A Business Visa is available for foreign nationals who intend to invest, establish, or conduct business activities in Nepal.
The visa duration is determined based on the recommendation of the concerned Government of Nepal department and may be issued for up to five years at a time.
The spouse and children of business visa holders may also be eligible for appropriate visa arrangements.
Transit Visa
A Transit Visa is available for travelers who use Nepal as a transit point while continuing their journey to another country.
The transit visa is generally issued for 24 hours (one day) and can be obtained from the immigration officer at the airport.

Foreign Currency Exchange
Foreign visitors can exchange international currencies through authorized banks and licensed money exchange counters in Nepal.

Banking Facilities
Banks in Nepal generally operate from Sunday to Friday, approximately 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Banks remain closed on Saturdays and government holidays, although some branches may operate with limited services.
Major cities and tourist areas also have ATMs and international payment facilities available.

Nepal follows Nepal Standard Time (NPT), which is GMT/UTC +5 hours 45 minutes.
Nepal is 15 minutes ahead of Indian Standard Time (IST).
